Disclaimer: I’m teaming up with the Summer 16 to help ensure all Allegheny County children have a safe, healthy and productive summer. Although I am receiving some form of compensation, all opinions remain my own. #PghSummer16
Summertime is finally here. As someone who works at a school, I am so ready to take time off. The school year has been really busy and full of exciting opportunities, but I need a break and the children do too. They have been cooped up in a classroom for 181 school days and need to explore the outdoors a little. Children need to enjoy the weather and give their brains a chance to recharge. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying they should just plop down in front of a TV and turn into a vegetable. I am saying they need to get out and be active. We live in a wonderful city full of great things but sadly, there hasn’t been too much to do in the past for our young children unless you have money or are involved with a church group. Well thanks to Mayor William Peduto, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, United Way’s Allegheny Partners for Out-of-School Time and other organizations our prayers have been answered in the form off Summer 16 Dream! Explore! Do! (www.pghsummer16.com) Check it out, see how easy it is to navigate the home page.
I love it that I can go to one website and find all the information I am looking for. The Summer 16 website (www.pghsummer16.com) includes a checklist for parents, an activities calendar and a centralized repository of summer programs to ensure that all children have a safe, healthy and productive summer. The website also enables parents and youth of all ages to request information on no cost and fee-based activities in the region this summer.
Sign up to learn more, I did and it was super simple. Easy to use forms, that don’t ask for all your business. All you need to enter is Parent Name, Email, Phone Number, Zip Code, Number of Children, Age of Children and What Type of Summer Program are you interested in. That’s it, see pretty painless.
After you fill out the form, scroll down to the next section to search all the great programs that are available. According to the website, there are several programs for my little one; looks like we will be pretty booked this summer. This is such a blessing, knowing that my 4-year-old will have a chance to expand his mind and have fun doing it. Who knew there were so many things to do during the summer?
I am a firm believer that it “Takes a Village to Raise a Child”; Pittsburgh is a great village full of good people and great resources. The public and private sector have joined together like never before. Below is a list of the Partners that made all this possible. Be sure to visit their websites for more information about all the great things that they do and to show them some love.
