Pittsburgh known for steel,  also led innovations and industries in aluminum, glass, shipbuilding, petroleum, foods, appliances, sports, transportation, computing, retail, cars, and electronics. In the 19th and 20th centuries, wealthy businessmen and nonprofit organizations donated millions of dollars to create educational and cultural institutions. As a result, Pittsburgh is rich in art and culture. There are so many great places to go to in Pittsburgh.

Some of these great places are pricey and are not usually on your list for family outings if you are struggling financially. Luckily, if you have a Pennsylvania Access or EBT card you can get some great discounts and enjoy these great assets that this city has to offer. Below I have listed a few of the discounts you can get. Visitors must present their Pennsylvania ACCESS or EBT Card and matching photo ID to receive the discount for all. These apply to adults and children over 2. Under 2 are free with card.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

So if you need a place to take your family and don’t have a lot of money, check out some of these great museums and enjoy all they have to offer. Its not much but when you are down and need a break, at least you can take your children to a place, that they can have fun and learn. Who knows maybe you will learn something too.

Have a great day!

  1. You may want to correct your post — it’s not an “ACCESS/EBT card” as those are not always synonymous. An adult or child can have an ACCESS card that is solely for Medicaid (the yellow ACCESS card) with no EBT, cash, or any other services. Further, an adult or child can have an ACCESS Medicaid card because of a disability/medical need with no income limitations (eligibility is completely unrelated to a person’s income).

ALL of these scenarios and card types are eligible receive low- or no-cost admission at participating locations.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Looking for cheap or free outings with my son. We are on a very fixed income so whatever suggestions would be nice.
