Not sure about you, but this year has been more like “Bah, Humbug” instead of “Happy Holidays”. Maybe it’s the weather or the election but I can’t get into the holiday spirit. Too many things to do and so little time. My 5 year old is super excited and it’s baby brothers 1st Christmas so I better get my act together. What better way then to watch the 25th Anniversary production of A Musical Christmas Carol. Hold on to your seats Pittsburgh, this classic tale will be in town from December 9-23.

Press Release from Pittsburgh Cultural Trust:

“Pittsburgh CLO is proud to announce casting for the 25th Anniversary production of A Musical Christmas Carol, this December at the Byham Theater. This production is made possible by the support received from the Next Generation Capital Campaign and will feature exciting new set elements and special effects. An incredible group of talented newcomers and Pittsburgh CLO veterans has been assembled for this favorite holiday treat! This year’s production will star Broadway veteran and Pittsburgh CLO alum Patrick Page as Ebenezer Scrooge; a role he is reprising after playing Scrooge at Madison Square Garden. We also welcome the creator of this adaptation, David H. Bell, to lead this production into a new era. Tickets are now available by calling 412-456-6666, online at pittsburghCLO.org or at the Theater Square Box Office.

A Musical Christmas Carol will be presented at the Byham Theater (6th & Fort Duquesne Boulevard) December 9-23. Tickets range from $32.75 – $60.75 with half-price tickets for children 3-14 and are now available by calling 412-456-6666, online at pittsburghCLO.org or at the Theater Square Box Office.

Pittsburgh CLO is also pleased to announce that together, with North Hills Community Outreach, they will conduct a food drive during all performances of A Musical Christmas Carol. Fun Facts & Reasons to See Pittsburgh CLO’s A MUSICAL CHRISTMAS CAROL

  • Broadway star and Pittsburgh CLO alum Patrick Page will star as Ebenezer Scrooge!
  • We offer prices even Scrooge couldn’t resist, including ½ price tickets for kids ages 3-14.
  •  The music! Some of the best parts of A Musical Christmas Carol are the songs, which includes nearly 20 holiday classics such as “Silent Night,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Deck the Halls” and “Joy to the World.”
  • “A Christmas Carol” became part of the celebration of Christmas in America in part because of legendary actor Lionel Barrymore’s annual (1931-1954) radio show where he played Ebenezer Scrooge. That role was instrumental in Barrymore being cast as Henry F. Potter in “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
  • It’s a true Pittsburgh holiday tradition, cast with local actors and supported by local production staff.
  • Invite your friends and family to enjoy great group discounts or attend one of our exclusive special events including A Very Merry Meal or, for our Scouting patrons, a Girl Scouts Pizza Party!
  • Charles Dickens came to Pittsburgh on March 20, 1842 – a little less than two years before “A Christmas Carol” was published in December of 1843. Dickens liked the people of Pittsburgh but not the buildings.
  • See downtown lit up for the holidays and enjoy the historic Byham Theater.
  • Catch a rising star! A quintet of Pittsburgh CLO Academy students will grace the stage in A Musical Christmas Carol, including our new Tiny Tim, Marco Attilio Petrucci. Be the first to see them before their names top the marquee!
  •  “A Christmas Carol” has been adapted more than 100 different times for theater, film, television, radio and opera, including the current 3-D Disney movie featuring Jim Carrey.
  • Nearly 200,000 area students have enjoyed this favorite, many marking it as their very first live theater experience!
  • Charles Dickens was 31 when he wrote “A Christmas Carol,” hoping to make £1,000 to help him out of financial trouble. The first printing (6,000 copies) of “A Christmas Carol” sold out on the first day. High production costs, however, initially brought Dickens a mere £230 rather than the £1,000 he expected.
  • Tim Hartman and Jeff Howell were members of the original cast and will continue to delight audiences this year as Mr. Fezziwig/The Ghost of Christmas Past and Bob Cratchit, respectively.
  • “A Christmas Carol” has never been out of print.
  • A Musical Christmas Carol has been host to nearly 600,000 audience members over the past 24 years.
  • Approaching 600 performances and counting, it’s been Pittsburgh merriest musical tradition for the last 25 years!
