Proud moments

On this day, July 26, 2016 at 6:39 p.m.  South Dakota cast the decisive 15 votes to make Hillary Rodham Clinton the Democratic Nominee.

Then on Jul 28, 2016 she accepted the nomination to be President of the United States.

While she is not the 1st, she joins the long list of women who has been nominated or have run for president. Here are a few of the firsts. (credit:

Victoria Woodhull – Equal Rights Party: 1872 Humanitarian Party: 1892  – first woman to run for president in the United States
Belva Lockwood – National Equal Rights Party: 1884, 1888 – first woman to appear on official ballots as a candidate for U.S. president
Margaret Chase Smith – Republican Party: 1964 –  first woman to have her name placed in nomination for president at a major political party’s convention
Charlene Mitchell – Communist Party: 1968 –  first African American woman nominated for president in the United States
Shirley Chisholm – Democratic Party: 1972 – first woman to run a campaign for the nomination of either major party for the office of president
Patsy Takemoto Mink Democratic Party: 1972 –first Asian American to seek nomination as president by a major political party

As a woman, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister and aunt I am excited. Even though I have a son and another boy on the way, I think it is a great for them to see women in power positions. This shows them that women are not just moms or wives. That we can do some pretty exciting and powerful things. I hope that as they grow, they will see this as the norm. Children learn so much by just watching others. I will treasure, when I held my 4 year old son in my arms as we watched her acceptance speech on my phone. Although he fell asleep near the end (why do they have to do this so late? It was way past my bed time :-)), he did get to hear her speak and he asked questions. It was a very proud moment in my life.

Now I know what you may be thinking. “I am delusional, simply minded, man hater, privileged, or whatever else you can think of.” So to set the record straight. No I am not voting for Hillary because she is a woman! To be completely honest I still don’t know who I am voting for. You can be a supporter of women’s rights but not like all they have to say. There are several women that I disagree with. That is the beauty of this country. We can all have an opinion. Opinions are like assholes, we all one. And to quote a friend “and they all stink!” HAHAHA

I am still proud and excited to see women take high ranking roles in our government. We have been seen and not heard for a long time. We are smart, creative and a valuable asset that needs to be tapped into. Our nieces, daughters  and granddaughters have one less barrier to knock down. And that my friend is something to be celebrated.

Now that the Republican and Democratic conventions have come and gone. We are left with 2 candidates.

Republician – Businessman Donald J. Trump (New York)

Democrat – Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (New York)

Now we can really look into these candidates and see what they stand for. What they will try to do for the country? I say that because luckily they are not dictators and must have the backing of Congress to carry out their agendas in most cases.

If you don’t like either one you can vote for the third party candidate which is:

Third Party –  Former Governor Gary Johnson (New Mexico)

OR you can write someone in or NOT VOTE. It might not be the popular choice but it is a right you have. Some may say that by not voting, you are wasting your vote. Well, that may be true is a sense, I personally would not vote for someone I don’t believe in. The lesser of 2 evils if you will. I have to believe that they will help this country in some way. Just my personal point of view. You can disagree if you want. That is your right.

So my friends, I want to leave you with this. Hillary Rodham Clinton you have made history. Now what are you going to do with this opportunity? How will you make this country better then before. What will you do to pave the way for future generations? You got my attention now what?…….
